KPL Team Battle | Recap Day 1

2022 | Kite Park League

Since the birth of park riding, Hood River has proudly supported its growth. After a pandemic-induced pause in the Kite Park League tour, kiteboarding’s most beloved discipline returned with the 2022 Hood River Team Battle. Unlike past events focused on individual heats, the Team Battle brings a fresh, team-based format designed to spotlight elite riding while being more accessible and engaging for viewers.

At today’s rider meeting, 27 athletes were divided into five teams. Captains were selected based on KPL rankings, and the remaining riders were drawn randomly from a hat. Each team is tasked with filming and editing a video that showcases their top riding within the Hood River Slider Project. The deadline: midnight, September 2nd.

Basic rules include at least one clip per rider and no more than ten clips from any single rider. Beyond that, creativity, teamwork, and originality will define the winning entry. On September 3rd, riders themselves will vote on which team produced the best video.

Starting tomorrow, the five teams will have around 144 hours to ride, film, and edit—capturing the peak of competitive park riding. The legendary Hood River Slider Project is ready, featuring a mix of new and classic features for teams to explore and innovate with.

With teams locked in, the stage is set. This week promises not only world-class kiteboarding, but a landmark moment for the Kite Park League and the progression of park-style riding. Stay tuned—Hood River Team Battle starts now.
